Stay Healthy – Make Sure Apple Juice and Cider are Pasteurized
Unpasteurized apple juice and cider can become infected with harmful bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella. The Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Perry Kendall and the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) are reminding the public to make sure apple juice and cider are pasteurized.
Raw, Undercooked Shellfish Can Cause Illness
"With the recent hot weather, we are asking people who buy raw oysters from retail outlets, harvest oysters themselves or eat them in restaurants, to be aware of the potential health risks," says Dr. Eleni Galanis, Physician Epidemiologist with the Center for Disease Control. "The important thing to remember here is that consuming raw or undercooked shellfish can make you quite sick. Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a pretty nasty bug."
